Quarto, copy No. 117 of an edition of 370, pp. 148, 2 (ad, colophon), numerous photogravure plates, 50 specimens of paper gathered on the pilgrimage, printed paper-covered boards quarter-bound in black morocco with gilt lettering and red rules and device to spine, slipcased. Signed on the colophon by Hunter and Elmer Adler, the Pynson printer, small bookseller sticker on rear paste-down. Hunter, probably the greatest-ever authority on paper-making, wrote in his autobiography that this edition was printed on handmade Japanese mulberry bark paper, and the paper covers were printed from an old woodblock he found in northern Korea.
